Canon 1000D vs 450D
After comparing the specification of these two camera, personally I am strongly FOR 1000D.
- 1000D is HK$1000 cheaper than 450D, both in kit set and camera body only.
- 1000D has lower color-depth (12bit) while 450D is 14bit.
BUT jpeg format carries 8bit only!
So if you are not shooting RAW, there is no difference practically.
If you know nothing about color-depth and don't even know 8 bit = 256, forget about color-depth please. - Continuously shooting...yes, 1000D is weaker since it can shoot ONLY 3 frames in a second. How often do you need to shoot things moving fast (Phelps at the pool for example)?
- 1000D has no spot metering.
If you don't know what spot metering is, or you know it but you never use, forget it, save $1000 and go for 1000D.
('Lacking of spot metering function' is claimed by a well established camera review website. I doubt if they really test it in detail. There is a '*' button, it should be a spot metering trigger, as a usual practice of Canon since the age of film cameras.) - 1000D has a smaller monitor at the back than 450D.
If you will only review the pictures at the camera monitor instead of computer monitor / 4R print out, go for 450D. - Both cameras are at same level of body construction: plastic framework, no / low resistance against dust and water.
- Matter of pixel is never a concern if you are not printing A4 size or larger FREQUENTLY.
- If you still like 450D more after reading these, go for 450D please. (Don't bother.)
